And when I was looking for an alternative, I found 'hideasoft remote desktop', which costs $50 for a lifetime and is more powerful than TeamViewer. It can connect up to 1000 terminals and can support video conferencing. I think this is the only real alternative to TeamViewer. It probably works like this. When you first start TeamViewer (with no configuration files available), it looks up your MAC address. If it is not known by TV, it creates a new TeamViewer ID and associates your MAC address with it. If the MAC address is known, you get the teamviewer ID associated with it.

Windows uninstall instructions

If, at anytime, you decide you do not want any of the software or offers that you have downloaded during this process, you can easily uninstall them via Windows’ “Add/Remove Programs” using the following instructions:

Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 & Vista

  1. From the Start Menu, select Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs click the Uninstall a Program link.
  3. Select the program you wish to remove and right click then select Uninstall/Change.
  4. Follow the prompts to finish the uninstallation of the software.

Windows XP

  1. From the Start Menu, select Control Panel.
  2. Click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
  3. Select the program you wish to remove and click on the “Remove” or “Change/Remove” button.
  4. Follow the prompts to finish the uninstallation of the software.

Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP in Classic View

  1. From the Start Menu, select Settings, and then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the “Add/Remove Programs” icon.
  3. Select the program you wish to remove and click on the “Remove” or “Change/Remove” button.
  4. Follow the prompts to finish the uninstallation of the software.

macOS uninstall instructions

TeamViewer 9 (or later) for macOS can be completely uninstalled within the TeamViewer settings. To uninstall TeamViewer for macOS, follow these steps:

  1. Open the TeamViewer preferences
  2. Open the Advanced tab
  3. Under Uninstall, click the Uninstall button
  4. TeamViewer is uninstalled
